When children suffer a loss, it's often hard to know what you can do to help them process their grief. The Happy Sad Memory box is designed to help children keep their treasured memories alive while giving them the tools they need to cope with their grief.
The tools in the box teach children that talking about someone who has died is helpful and can make them feel better. Doing so may make them laugh, cry, or even feel angry, and all of those feelings are normal. They can choose to decorate their box with photos or items that help them remember their loved one and even write a letter to them that will be kept inside the box. They can keep their Happy Sad Memory box forever and add to it as they get older and have more memories to share with the one they lost.
Each box includes:
A cut out heart to name the person they lost can be glued to the box along with photographs
A blank card for the child to write a note to their loved one
Exercises to help them build their own self-esteem and realise their unique values
Reading materials to help them understand their loss
A memory stone to keep with them as a symbol of the person they lost
Self-affirmation card to remind them that they are loved
